Assurance Wireless is a telephone service subsidized by the federal Lifeline Assistance program. It provides low-income eligible people with a free phone, free monthly data, unlimited texting, and free monthly minutes.
Your eligibility may be based on your household income or if you or a family member is enrolled in specific government assistance programs, such as Medicaid/Medi-Cal, Food Stamps/SNAP/CalFresh, or SSI. Proof of income or participation in a program may be required. Lifeline Assistance is available only for one wireless or wireline account per household. The program is open to residents of homeless shelters, nursing homes, and separate households residing at the same address. Those with temporary addresses are also eligible.
The Lifeline Service from Assurance Wireless includes a free smartphone, unlimited text, 1,000 talk minutes, and 4.5GB of data. All these services are provided on the T-Mobile Network.

Unlocking Your Phone
Assurance Wireless unlocks your phone after at least 12 months of service. To network unlock your Assurance Wireless phone, you can contact the carrier and provide them with the device’s IMEI number.
Once the carrier has verified your request, they will give you an unlock code that you can use to unlock the device.
