Frequently asked questions
What is the Qantas Wi-Fi coverage?
Currently Qantas Wi-Fi is operational only in the Australian airspace for both domestic and international flights. Due to satellite coverage and regulatory reasons, once the aircraft leaves the Australian airspace, Wi-Fi will not be available.
Qantas has partnered with Viasat to bring Wi-Fi coverage on international routes on the newer A321XLR, A350 and B787 aircraft and it will be rolled out in a phrased manner. With this new partnership, they will be able to retrofit the satellite Wi-Fi technology on the existing A330-200s for free Wi-Fi on flights across the Tasman and select routes across Asia.
Which flight has Wi-Fi?
To check if your upcoming flight has Wi-Fi, download the Qantas app and add your upcoming flight under “My Trips” section of the app. Once added, go to “View onbord experience ” to check if your flight has Wi-Fi.
Wi-Fi is equipped on the following domestic aircraft: A330-200D, 737-800 and A220-300. Make sure you check the Qantas app before you travel as Wi-Fi availability is subject to aircraft and route.
QantasLink flights operating on A220-300 aircraft has Wi-Fi.
How fast is the Qantas Wi-Fi?
The median download speed is 10-15 Mbps. You can stream movies and TV shows, access social media and use messaging apps such as Apple iMessage, Facebook Messenger, and WhatsApp. Voice and video calls are not permitted to ensure enjoyable flight experience for everyone. Weather conditions and technical difficulties may cause slower internet speeds.
To test your internet speed, go to Speed.is.
